Medical DirectorGeorgios Papazisis

Dr. Georgios Papazisis is a distinguished Professor of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology at the School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He holds a Medical Degree and a PhD in Pharmacology/Physiology, complemented by a specialization in Clinical Pharmacology. Currently, he serves as the Medical Director of the Clinical Research Unit at Papageorgiou Hospital, where he coordinates early-phase clinical trials and leads initiatives focused on pharmacovigilance and drug safety. Dr. Papazisis is the Chairman of the Postgraduate Program in ‘Vaccines and Infectious Diseases’ and actively contributes to ethical oversight as Chair of the Committee for Bioethics. With over 110 published papers and more than 3,500 citations, his research interests encompass clinical trials and pharmacotherapeutics. He is an influential member of various national and international organizations, including the Greek National Regulatory Organization for Medicines and the European Medicines Agency, reflecting his commitment to advancing medical education and research in pharmacology.

Dr. Goulas has an extensive record of service in various academic and scientific committees, contributing significantly to the fields of clinical pharmacology, pharmacogenetics, and liver toxicity. With 69 publications in peer-reviewed journals and a notable h-index of 17, his research interests and contributions continue to enhance the understanding of pharmacological effects and drug interactions in clinical settings.

Professor, Laboratory of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Faculty of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Dr. Nikolaos Raikos is a prominent Professor in the Laboratory of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at the Faculty of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He holds a Medical Degree, a B.A. in Chemistry, and a Ph.D. in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, all from Aristotle University. His academic career spans nearly two decades, progressing from Lecturer to Associate-Professor and now Full-Professor since 2020, where he specializes in forensic toxicology and clinical toxicology. Dr. Raikos has participated in multiple research projects, notably focusing on the determination of toxic substances and forensic rights. His influence in the field is underscored by his extensive publication record, which includes over 70 peer-reviewed articles. With a total of 796 citations and an h-index of 17, his research contributes significantly to forensic science and pharmacology, making him a leading voice in the study of substances of abuse and medical toxicology.

Head of the Clinical Trials Office

Dr. Athanasia Mandalou is a distinguished Economist and Accountant, specializing in Project Management and Clinical Research Administration. Since 2013, she has served as the Head of the Clinical Trials Office at Papageorgiou General Hospital in Thessaloniki, where she has overseen the efficient execution of over 70 clinical trials annually. With an MBA in Health Economics and a Bachelor’s in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Macedonia, Dr. Mandalou is recognized for her expertise in financial oversight and regulatory compliance. She is actively involved in developing strategic frameworks for the Clinical Trials Office, leading a multidisciplinary team, and establishing collaborations that foster innovation in clinical research. Her contributions have significantly enhanced the hospital’s reputation as a leading research institution in Greece.

Professor of Medical Biopathology-Microbiology, School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece

Dr. Georgia Gioula is a prominent expert in Medical Biopathology and Microbiology, currently serving as a Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Born on April 26, 1970, in Alexandroupolis, Greece, she earned her Medical Degree and PhD from the same university, as well as a Medical Specialty Degree in Medical Biopathology-Microbiology. Dr. Gioula has extensive experience, including her role as the Head of the National Influenza Centre in Northern Greece since 2022 and her leadership in the Laboratory of Hepatology at Hippokratio Hospital. She is actively involved in various scientific societies, serving as a board member and contributing as a reviewer for numerous journals. With 91 publications and an h-index of 14, her research focuses on infectious diseases, including SARS-CoV-2, and she has participated in significant national and international congresses. Dr. Gioula’s dedication to research and education has made a considerable impact in her field.

Chief Executive Officer of the Biomedical Research and Education Special Unit

Dr. Asterios Karagiannis is an esteemed Emeritus Professor of Medicine at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a robust academic and clinical background in Internal Medicine. Born on January 8, 1953, in Thessaloniki, he has held numerous significant positions, including Chief Executive Officer of the Biomedical Research and Education Special Unit and Head of the School of Medicine. Dr. Karagiannis earned his Medical Degree and completed his Doctoral Thesis at Aristotle University. His expertise as a Clinical Hypertension Specialist is well recognized, and he has made substantial contributions to the fields of arterial hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. With over 350 publications and an impressive h-index of 61, his research is widely cited, reflecting his influence in medicine. He has actively participated in multiple studies, served on editorial boards, and is involved in numerous medical societies, showcasing his commitment to advancing medical education and research.

Head Nurse of the Phase I Unit in Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece

Tryfon Papadopoulos is an experienced nursing professional, currently serving as Head Nurse in the Clinical Research Unit and Molecular Medicine Department at Papageorgiou General Hospital in Thessaloniki. Born on November 13, 1967, he has a robust background in critical care, having worked in various nursing roles since 1992, including positions in Cardiac Surgery, Intensive Care, and as Deputy Head Nurse in the Neurology Department. He holds a Nursing Diploma from Alexandreio Technological Institute of Thessaloniki and a Master’s in Health Care Management. Tryfon has actively participated in numerous seminars and workshops, enhancing his expertise in emergency nursing care, emotional intelligence, and clinical coding. His recent involvement in clinical research includes leading roles in Phase I and III studies, showcasing his commitment to advancing medical research and patient care.

Clinical Research Associate at Biomedical Research and Education Special Unit –    Faculty of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Aikaterini Stravoravdi is a dedicated Licensed Psychologist and PhD candidate at the Faculty of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in Clinical Mental Health. She holds a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health and has received accreditation as a CBT Therapist from the European Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. With extensive experience as a Clinical Research Associate, Aikaterini has led neuropsychological assessments in significant clinical trials, including those evaluating new RSV vaccines and responses to SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations among healthcare workers. She has also worked as a therapist in private practice, focusing on anxiety disorders and chronic illness management. Aikaterini is actively involved in research, with multiple publications and presentations at national and international conferences to her name. Her skills in psychological assessment and treatment, as well as her commitment to volunteering in various social programs, underline her dedication to mental health and well-being.
